Want to use your website to raise
funds? Here are five key areas I focus on whenever I'm asked
to evaluate a non-profit organisation's website. You can use them
too, to raise more money online for your organisation!
- What's on the home page? If it's all about you, copy and paste this content into your 'About Us' page where it belongs – and put the home page to better use to showcase a strong, structured fundraising ask!
- How can people give? If you don't have an online giving facility you will lose 90% of prospective donors. They've got a mouse in their hand right now, not a cheque book.
- Who's visiting the site and what are they doing there? Interrogate your web stats to find valuable information that will help you understand visitor behaviour.
- Give them something to do. Sign a petition, join a group, vote in a poll. There's a reason web visitors have one hand on the mouse – they like to use it!
- Invest in online promotion. The greatest website is useless if no one knows it's there!
Many smaller non-profits, especially, don't have the time, the resources, the capacity or the skills to develop and maintain a successful online fundraising programme.
